Cape George Marine Works Cape George 36 Cutter
CSF 1.47 and Comfort 47.8: the most seaworthy numbers in the entire search, on a 36-foot cutter under $20K.

Best for: The sailor 6'3" or under who wants the boat that circumnavigators choose, and will survey a wood deck.
The good
- Best Capsize Screening (1.47) and Comfort Ratio (47.8) of all 140 boats we looked at.
- Atkin/Monk long-keel cutter, 45% ballast, transom-hung rudder a windvane loves; 31.5 ft waterline gives a 7.5-knot hull.
- Built in Port Townsend by Cecil Lange; the Cape George community is small but devoted.
The bad
- Fiberglass hull, wood deck: survey the deck and the hull-deck joint for rot before anything else.
- Kit-finished 1974 hulls vary a lot in interior quality.
- Narrow 10.5 ft beam; less interior than a modern 36. Tankage not published.
If you fit under 6'3", this is the boat we would buy from this entire list. Cutter rig, long keel, heavy, balanced: the gold standard for one person at sea. The deck survey decides it.
